Dear Creature
by Jonathan Case
Tor, $15.99; 192pp
Release Date: October 11, 2011

Imagine if the “Creature from the Black Lagoon” could speak and because of a love for Shakespeare spoke in Iambic pentameter. Illustrate him in stark black and white. And give him a love to rival any of Shakespeare’s works. You would still not capture the debut graphic novel from Mr. Case.

With a group of crabs to help us follow the action like a Greek chorus, the story follows quickly and effortlessly. The artwork is a bit simplistic for my taste and the story somewhat predictable but overall it was enjoyable.  Recommended. ~~ Bob LaPierre
