This entry in The Wild Hunt series finds war brewing on both sides of the Veil between the worlds. Gair returns to the mainland from Gimrael wallowing in guilt, bent on vengeance, struggling with his failing power of the Song and haunted by the events he witnessed in El Maqqam.
Old friends and foes make an appearance. Ytha, the speaker, leads the Nimrothi as they move south to reclaim the lands they lost in the Founding War. Tanith and Ailric come with a warning and, along with Gair and others join a warlord in a mountain fortress hoping to make a stand against the Nimrothi. Teia arrives to warn the warlord of the Nimrothis invasion and speaks of their one hope of victory, the Iron Men, knights who have not fought in decades. All looks hopeless.
This was originally intended to be a trilogy but there is a fourth book to tie up all the loose ends. A solid entry that ramps up the tension and leaves the reader breathlessly awaiting the conclusion. ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
