Another highly-anticipated Sookie novel….well, at least by yours truly. I love these stories; they’re just like candy.
There are two main plots in this novel, one was to solve a murder that occurred at Eric’s home, the second was for Sookie to decide how to use her Grandmother’s love token, the cluviel dor. The cluviel dor was an elven love token chock-full of magic and the last one anywhere. Naturally, everyone wanted it.
Subplots included the arrival of the King of Louisiana to investigate the disappearance of one of his minions who was disposed of in the last novel. Another subplot was a resolution of the family issues between Sookie’s fae great-grandfather Niall and her great-uncle Dermot. And poor Sam and Alcide make another unwise choice of women but it takes Sookie quite a bit of effort to discover the truth. There are marriages and babies all over Bon Temps. Oh, yeah… and the Queen of Oklahoma makes a personal appeal to Sookie to give up Eric. Guess how well that went over.
There were a couple little tidbits to keep us guessing, one of which was Cataliades’ offer to teach Sook more about her telepathy and another was a surprise phone call from Quinn.
All in all, a very satisfying tale and it was fun to read. Harris has it all together a great narrative style, fascinating characters, and a sufficiently complex plot to keep one guessing. ~~ Catherine Book
