The First Days: As The World Dies
by Rhiannon Frater
Tor, 14.95, 331 pp
Release Date: July 5, 2011

This is the first of a trilogy.

This is the way the world ends, with the rending of flesh starting on a peaceful morning. Katie saves Jenni and begins a cross-country journey to save Jenni's son ahead of the zombies. A small fortified town is their only hope for survival.

The characters are beautifully drawn, the scary world believable, and the strong female protagonists admirable. This is the best horror story I have read, and even though I am not a horror fan I look forward to seeing the sequels on the shelves. The final line is the worst is yet to come and for horror fans that is good. Recommended. ~~ Pam Allan
